Intermediate BG Fiddle
In this workshop we will examine the anatomy of learning/transcribing a fiddle solo. Lillian will teach a common bluegrass fiddle break and then we will explore it further to understand how we might apply it to other songs in the cannon. Utilizing some basic music theory, we’ll be able to identify and speak specifically about how one “comes in” on a solo or kick and how the notes relate to the respective chords and key of the solo. Students can expect to leave the workshop with some practice transposing, a good kick-off to use in breaks, and some common licks as well!
Lillian Sawyer
Lillian Sawyer is a fiddler, educator, and composer based out of Portland, Oregon. A graduate of Berklee College of Music, Lillian has performed with renowned folk musicians such as Darol Anger, Joe K. Walsh, Grant Gordy, Ben Krakauer, and more in addition to touring both nationally and internationally with award-winning bands such as Never Come Down and Fog Holler.
