Beg/Inter 1 Flatpicking- Waitlist
In Beginning/Intermediate 1 Flatpicking we will be focusing both on your melodic and rhythm playing.
For rhythm guitar, we will be developing a steady time feel while refining strumming patterns and smooth chord transitions. We will also look at picking out bass notes and walking bass lines to create more excitement and motion in your rhythm playing.
For melodic playing, we will work on right-hand picking technique, hammer-ons and pull-offs, along with double-stops. We will also explore the up the neck, learning little chord groupings (triads) that will help you develop bases for building breaks.
Through the use of our ears along with tablature we will get you playing some simple melodies, kick-off and tags.
Come prepared with a tuner and notebook and let’s have some fun making music!
Bill Humby
Since falling hard for bluegrass while attending his first NimbleFingers Workshop sometime around the turn of the century (BCBW back then), Bill has made it his mission to learn as many songs as possible. With a catchy harmony-driven repertoire, he spent the pre-covid years touring Western Canada as the lead vocalist and guitarist for Nomad Jones. Bill play with The Humbuddies, a duo with his son Nico Humby. They have just released their first album Humbelievable.
Bill has a vast musical background that includes performing in Gilbert and Sullivan operettas, playing trumpet for the Shrine Circus, drumming in a wedding band (check him out on the kit at the honky tonk dance!), and singing with his family on a French-Canadian reality television show.
